I am a silicone
survivor, permanently disabled with silicone poisoning. I was outraged to
view a newscast showing a medical doctor injecting liquid silicone into a
patient's face to reduce acne scars.
This is
outrageous, and I believe it is still against the law to inject any type of
liquid silicone, is it not?
I have a very
large section on my website dedicated to silicone poisoning, including a photo
of my maimed and disfigured chest filled with silicone tumors following a
bilateral mastectomy. You may view this information at: http://www.jussta.com/silicone_parties_beware.htm
I also have a
page on my web site on the subject of illegal silicone parties held in homes.
You may view this page and the heartbreaking story of one woman at this link:
Would you
please let me know what the FDA policy is on liquid silicone
injections for cosmetic purposes?
I appreciate
your investigating this matter fully! I trust you will be able to encourage
nbcsandiego to recant this story - and let people know the dangers of
injecting liquid silicone in any amount, anywhere in the body!
I am willing to
testify before any investigative committees on the dangers of silicone in the
body. I receive the most heartbreaking emails from women worldwide suffering
from major health challenges due to breast implants whether they be saline or
gel. The medical costs and loss of income are huge for our government and
will only continue the more breast implants are done.
Here is a link
to the story covering what was broadcast on the news - to me this was a form
of advertising for this doctor as well and for the practice of injecting
liquid silicone.

An NBC 7/39 Special Report
Video: Silicone Solution
POSTED: 6:23 pm PDT May 16, 2006
UPDATED: 9:59 am PDT May 17, 2006
SAN DIEGO -- Cosmetic silicone -- banned for years because of safety
concerns -- is back.
The silicone back on the market is the same type used in breast
implants banned by the Food and Drug Administration more than a decade
ago, NBC 7/39 reported. This time, silicone is being used in the face
with good, bad and permanent results.
Sculptra, Collagen and Restylane are three products used to plump up
lines, lips and to treat acne scars. The results from these products
are temporary, however. Silicone's effects, on the other hand, are
permanent.
Tiny drops of silicone are injected into acne scars in a series of
treatments spaced two to three weeks apart.
"After two or three sessions of silicone, their scarring can be
improved 60 to 70 percent and they never have to deal with it again,"
said Dermatologist Dr. Stephen Mandy.
Still, some specialists insist silicone is still too risky to use in
the face.
"I think things that you're injecting in this area that are permanent
are bad and I won't use them," said Dermatologist Carlos Wolfe.
According to the American Society for Dermatology Surgery,
complications from silicone face fillers can include permanent, hard
lumps at the injection site, migration of silicone to a different part
of the face and redness of the skin.
Proper technique is key to a good result, according to cosmetic
dermatologist Dr. Mitchel Goldman.
"As long as you use silicone properly, it should be complication free,"
Mitchel said.
In San Diego, silicone injections cost about $5,000 for one treatment
of acne scars. Most patients require four to five treatments.
